Meet Mike

Mike found his love for hiking mountains and exploring trails in 1975 when he and his brother joined some more experienced friends on a trek from the ADK Loj to summit Mt Colden in the Adirondack Mountains. Along the way he observed and learned what not to do while hiking - after a short hiatus to Connecticut, Mike returned to complete hiking all 46 high peaks of the Adirondack Mountains.

Soon after, his employment conveniently relocated to New Hampshire, where the climbing could continue into new mountain ranges. After summiting many 4000-footers of NH, VT and Maine, Mike found his way into the Sandwich Range of the White Mountains, where he would henceforth focus his love for trails and mountains.

Recent trail work + stepping stones along

the Kelley Trail

After finding a downed tree on what would soon become one of his favorite paths, the Kelley Trail, and unsure of proper trail maintenance protocol; Mike and his son attended his first of many Wonalancet Out Door Club (WODC) meetings where they spent a rainy day clearing waterbars and drainages. Upon receiving permission to remove the fallen tree and finding out no club members had yet adopted the trail, Mike jumped on the opportunity.

That was twelve years ago and since retiring, he has committed to spending at least one day each week in his beloved forest and on WODC trails. While in the Sandwich Range, Mike can be found clearing waterbars, making short trail relocations to preserve vegetation or installing new stepping stones - which is how we met, lugging stones to further improve his beautiful trail.

Thanks for all the trail work, Mike - Happy Climbing!
